Watermelon—that juicy pink fruit we all know and love. One bite evokes feelings of lounging poolside during the dog days of summer, enjoying a nice cold slice at your Aunt’s backyard barbecue. It may seem like a delicious fruity fix at face value (and the theme of Harry Styles recent hit “Watermelon Sugar”), but it’s so much more than that. This water-packed melon (seeds and all!) made its way from our summer party spread to our moisturizers, lipsticks, and so many more formulas a few years ago, and the beauty industry has never looked back.

As Watermelon seed oil is one of the go-to ingredients in our Threeway Solid Lip Oils, we thought we’d gather the facts you need to know about it, how it impacts your skin, and exactly where you can find it to reap all its skin- and lip-loving benefits.

Watermelon seed oil is exactly what it sounds like—a lightweight oil extracted from those little black seeds inside the juicy fruit. You’ve likely noticed the trendy ingredient showing up in your skincare products, but this nourishing staple is far from new. It dates back more than 5,000 years ago in the Kalahari desert of Southern Africa, and is said to have been cultivated in the Nile valley as early as 2000 BCE. Additionally, it was later introduced to India in 800 CE and to China in 1100 CE.

Known for its incredible health and skin benefits, it was used in ancient times for its healing and nourishing properties, thanks to its incredible lineup of supreme vitamins and minerals which include linoleic and oleic acid, omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids, Vitamins A, B, and E, plus magnesium, iron, copper, and potassium.

Well, as we just mentioned, the seeds are truly where the magic lies. Watermelon seed oil is jam-packed with powerhouse antioxidants like Vitamins A, B and E, which are known to help heal dry areas, and keep skin smooth, supple, and moisturized.

This is obviously why we had to include it in our Threeway Lip Oils. Its nurturing and protective nutritional profile moisturize even the driest skin and lips with antioxidants, minerals, and unsaturated fatty acids.

Plus, when the protein-packed oil is paired with other powerhouse ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, it helps prevent any dryness or flakiness (we’re looking at you dreaded winter chapped lips!).

This nourishing ingredient can be found in many moisturizers, serums, masks, and even some lip products on market, but lucky for you (and your lips), you can also find it in our Threeway Solid Lip Oils which harness the powers of a nourishing lip oil with the intensity of a lipstick and shine of a gloss. As a part of our ultra-nourishing oil blend, the watermelon seed oil works alone and in tandem with the other star ingredients to plump, hydrate, and nourish for healthy-looking lips with glossy, glowing color.

Whether you choose to add watermelon seed oil to your skincare regimen or to your lip product line up, one thing is certain: It’s a must-have ingredient to incorporate into your routine, and ensures your skin and lips stay hydrated (and dare we say, juicy) 365 days a year.
